Why You Should Hire A Coach

During summer 2020, we started a real estate mentoring/coaching program with a real estate coach specialized in Multifamily named Edna Keep. We felt like we needed help to launch our real estate journey and create a strong basis for the vision we had for the upcoming years.

A few months later, I came across a life coach on instagram and decided to join her program as well. Life coaching is very different from a traditional coaching program that focuses on one subject (real estate, marketing, sport…). I think that it is very powerful as it helps manage your entire life, including your work life.

In 2021, we joined another mentoring/coaching program: Raising capital with Marcin Drozdz.

This is our journey with coaching as of January 2022. Read more to learn why I think joining a coaching program will change your life for the better.

What is coaching anyway?

A coach will help you become the best version of yourself. He/she will help you reach your full potential and achieve your goals. A coach is here to guide you in a path you already chose. You and your coach are working as partners so you can perform at your best.

Overcome your limiting beliefs OR where the power of coaching truly lies.

Our biggest barriers are our limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs are thoughts that we have about ourselves that prevent us from reaching our full potential. Examples of limiting beliefs could be “I am not worthy”, “I am not smart enough”, “I don’t have time”…

A coach is here to help you become aware of these limiting beliefs and search for ways to overcome them. A coach will help you lower the volume of these limiting thoughts. He’ll guide you to find new ones that are powerful and will support you in reaching your goals.

My life coach Heather Boersma is often telling me that I already know the solution to my problems, that she could tell me but it will be more powerful if it comes from me. It is not easy, I must say, but it’s true that when I come up with the idea on how to overcome an issue, change a thought or create a new one, it is always easier to apply and believe.

Difference between mentoring and coaching

A mentor is an expert that will guide you to learn and develop faster than you might do alone.  A coach will ask you questions and bring up thoughts that will help you work through your own issues.

Mentoring and coaching can be intertwined in some programs. For example, our coaching program with Edna Keep is a mix of mindset work and real estate knowledge and skills. Mindset work can be considered as coaching as everybody has his own mindset and can make it evolve. Real Estate skills on the other hand can be considered as mentorship. In fact, there is a transfer of knowledge between the mentor and the mentee. Additionally, when we were reaching out to her for advice on what to do within a real estate deal, then she acts like a coach.

There is also a distinction of timeline between the two. Coaching helps you in the present by solving immediate problems while mentoring helps you for the future.

Vision board and goal settings

If you are thinking about hiring a coach or joining a coaching  program, please see this article as the sign to take the leap! Having someone in your corner, here to help when you need it, is very powerful and so motivating.

Joining the programs we joined in the past 2 years changed a lot of things for us. We learnt how to be more intentional in our actions and how to act in order to reach our goals faster.

As I wrote above, a coach will guide you to reach your full potential and your goals. In order for you to take advantage of the coaching program you’ll choose, I would advise you to work on a vision board and/or on goal settings.

One thing we learnt with coaching is that “if you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there”. In the exchange between Alice and the Cheshire Cat in Alice in the wonderland, Lewis Carroll is expressing that you cannot pick a road to somewhere when you don’t know where you are going. In short, you need a vision, you need goals! You cannot be successful if you don’t know where you are going.

What coaching brought us

  • Accountability. Within Edna’s coaching, we were assigned an accountability partner that we meet twice a week to share our progress and successes of the previous week and our plan for the following week. We also have weekly meetings with the other coachees to share our achievements and potential issues.
  • Support. When you have a coach, you have someone to reach out to when you feel stuck and need advice or help to move forward.
  • Community. When you join a coaching program, you become part of a group of people that have the same aspirations as you. You often have a facebook group where you can reach out to other coachees.
  • New opportunities. By working on our limiting beliefs, we realized we could do way more than what we thought.
  • Motivation. When you are part of a group of people committed to reach their goals, sharing how they are doing it and present to help you do the same, you feel motivated, find inspiration and take intentional actions.

A coach will encourage you to work through your limiting beliefs, find your own solutions and improve your own performance.

If you want to become the best version of yourself, if you are committed to learn and grow, then it may be time to find the coach that suits your needs and fits with your personality. Invest in yourself, you won’t regret it!

If you are interested in joining one of our coaches’ programs, please reach out to us and we will introduce you to her/him!

We are always happy to connect so let us know in the comments if you have any questions or comments! All the best in your coaching journey!
